HAMPSHIRE chairman Rod Bransgrove is confident Sean Ervine will extend his career with the county – so he can play for England.

Ervine is yet to sign a two-year extension to his existing deal, which expires at the end of next season, and has revealed that he is considering playing for Zimbabwe again.

But Bransgrove believes he will agree terms in January.

He said: “Slug’s only a year away from qualifying for England and has carved out an excellent reputation in English cricket.

“I’ve never thought for a moment he would prefer to play for Zimbabwe again.

"I haven’t read too much into what he’s said and would expect players to look at all opportunities."
