Michael Carberry will not be rushed back for Hampshire’s Caribbean T20 campaign in January.

The Hampshire batsman had to pull out of the England Performance Programme’s trip to Australia because of a blood clot in his lung, effectively ending any chnace of an Ashes call-up.

He is also unlikely to be ready for Hampshire’s fortnight in the Caribbean.

Hampshire manager Giles White revealed: "We don’t know about Carbs because of his recent issues health-wise – we have to be sure he’s fit to fly and it might be a case of sitting out this one.

"I’ve been speaking to him a lot on the phone – he feels fine within himself, but it’s a case of monitoring how he is and getting the right medical advice.

"There’s no point in rushing him back; it would have been a very exciting winter for Carbs, but he’s realistic and he knows he’s got a lot of cricket ahead of him."

Hampshire will also be without Michael Lumb, Dimitri Mascarenhas and Nic Pothas but will not have to worry about Kieron Pollard and Dwayne Bravo when they play Trinidad & Tobago in their final group game.

The West Indies stars will be playing in Australia’s KFC Big Bash after signing for South Australia and Victoria respectively.

The absence of Pollard and Bravo is a big blow to the West Indies Cricket Board as Chris Gayle, the captain of Jamaica, has already agreed a deal to play at the Big Bash for Western Australia.

Lumb will be playing in the Big Bash for the Queensland Bulls.

But provided he is not called up by England, Hampshire Player of the Year Jimmy Adams will be available for the Caribbean T20 as his Twenty20 stint with the Auckland Aces in New Zealand will have finished by then.
