Hampshire teenager Danny Briggs took four wickets as the England Performance Programme won their latest match in Australia.

The slow left-armer finished with an outstanding 4 for 9 as the EPP beat Western Australia A by six wickets in Perth.

Briggs bowled five overs - including two maidens – as the hosts were bowled out for 98.

Warwickshire bowler Chris Woakes (3-23) also impressed before Craig Kieswetter starred at the top of the order as the EPP reached their target in just 21.1 overs.

ECB Performance Director David Parsons said: “This was an impressive bowling performance. Chris Woakes was particularly impressive and we were especially pleased to see Danny Briggs pick up four wickets in his first match of this tour to reinforce his reputation as a young player of clear potential.”

Briggs is expected to play in the EPP’s final four-day game against a Western Australia XI, which begins in Perth on Tuesday, before returning home for Christmas.

The 19-year-old hopes to be selected for the England Lions squad in the new year.
