Michael Barnes who plays for Portsmouth in the ECB Southern Electric Premier League, is set to join Warwickshire's professional staff next season.
The 21-year old wicketkeeper/batsman, who represented Hampshire through all the junior age groups, impressed the Midland county with his glovework during eight trial matches for the county Second XI.
He pouched eight victims in his 2nd XI debut against Worcestershire and, while not making any real impact with the bat, was rewarded with a haul of victims behind the stumps.
Warwickshire have signed Barnes, right, to replace Tony Frost, who announced his retirement this season.
Barnes will understudy ex-Sussex man Tim Ambrose.
