Rick Ankers is facing a race against time to get Burridge suited and booted in time for their Southern Electric t20 Cup final date against South Wilts in two weeks’ time.

Having never progressed beyond the second round before, Burridge have never worried about kitting themselves in pyjama coloured clothing for t20 cricket and have been content to wear their traditional white gear.

But now they’re in the Ageas Bowl floodlight final on July 24, Burridge have to get themselves togged out for the occasion.

Competition regulations specify coloured clothing must be worn, so Burridge are off to the outfitters.

“We’ll be wearing green and gold, with matching coloured pads,” team captain Ankers chuckled.

“I’m speaking to a potential supplier today and I’m confident we’ll show South Wilts how to dress for the occasion.”

Burridge, who are pushing strongly for promotion at the top of Southern Electric Premier Division One, qualified for their first-ever final by thrashing neighbours Sarisbury Athletic in Sunday’s cup semi-final.

“Confidence is high in the camp after a league and cup double against Sarisbury, and we’ll look to push on when Fawley come to our place on Saturday,” he continued.

“We’re just a fraction of a point behind Sarisbury now, though I fancy it will go right to the wire.”

Going back to the t20 Cup final, Ankers said: “I really fancy our chances. We’ve got a good side, but we’ll go in as underdogs which suits us perfectly.”

South Wilts, who play in black with a red and white trim, beat New Milton in the other semi-final – recovering after losing six wickets for 17 runs in an astonishing top order collapse.

They posted 148-9 and then pegged New Milton to 132-9 to win by 16 runs.
