WILDGROUND Junior School have been crowned Hampshire under-11 champions.
The Dibden Purlieu school defeated Hook-with-Warsash in the final .
In the semi-final, the team beat Fair Oak Junior School. Fair Oak scored 236-6 in their 12 overs (A team starts with 200 runs in Kwik cricket but loses five runs at the fall of each wicket) with Daniel Newcomb taking 2-13.
Wildground lost five wickets in their first four overs but 25 runs from Matthew Forster helped Wildground to victory on 238-6.
In the final, Hook batted first and some excellent bowling from Daniel Newcomb (2-12) and George Joy (2-20) restricted them to 226-8. Wildground were reduced to 194-5 with four overs left but Bailey Parratt (32) hit three sixes and three fours to lift the score to 236-5 to win by 10 runs. The win was a great way for headteacher John Wright to bow out on after 12 years at Wildground.
