Bashley (Rydal) skipper Richard Morris blasted the highest individual score of the ECB Southern Electric Premier League season when he smashed the St Cross Symondians attack for 179.

Morris hit 12 sixes and 15 fours in his knock, the third highest recorded in the Premier Division.

It set Bashley up for a 164-run victory – the result dumping St Cross Symondians in second from bottom place in the final table.

Ironically, Bashley were in some difficulty at 20-2 - openers Michael Porter and Nick Baker went cheaply – when Morris joined his elder brother, James at the crease.

The pair added 151 for the third wicket before James Morris (42) became a second victim for Richard Taylor (2-39).

But there was no quelling the brutal assault from the Bashley captain, who literally thrashed the St Cross bowling all around the Green Jackets Ground.

“It was unquestionably the best knock I’ve seen from a club player,” praised St Cross vice-captain Jordan Finney.

“Where ever you bowled at him, he looked as though he might hit you over the fence.

“I was just glad I had a front row seat – it was brilliant stuff.”

Morris powered Bashley to 310-7 – a total St Cross were never going to match.

Their reply just petered away – Sam Thomson (3-29) creating inroads into the middle-order – and it needed last man Taylor (25) to make their highest individual score in a disappointing 146 all out.
