GREAT bass continue to figure from local marks - especially for those going afloat.
Danny Mapes targeted a mark just off Freshwater and, using an 8/0 Sakuma Manta hook baited with cuttlefish, apprehended a 11lb 13oz cracker which was weighed and returned alive.
The Rolling Mills section was the setting for the fourth round of the Southampton League which is supported by ALS Tackle where pout, whiting, silver eels and flounders figured along with a 9lb 4oz thorneback ray bagged by John Brown.
Results: 1st John Brown 11lb 15oz, 2nd Nick Hayter 2lb 13oz, 3rd Anthony Davies 2lb 3oz.
The next match in the pegged open league will be fished at Hamble on November 25.
Apart from recording 12 differing species, the 44 competitors who entered The Save the Children Charity Open shore competition organised by the Swanage club raised £132 for the charity.
England Youth International Callum Graham (Southbourne), who recently won a bronze individual medal at the World Youth Championships, collected the £180 top prize with 17 fish measuring 305cm.
Others: 2nd Graham Woods 269cm, 3rd Gavin Sloper 265cm, 4th Gary Young 264cm, 5th Ben Bradstock 257cm.
The junior section was won by Daniel Powell with 16cm while the pool for the longest flatfish was won by Wenda Rice (Swanage) with a 33cm flounder. The round fish pool was won by Roman George with a 66cm conger.
Michael Fazakerly, 16, representing Portchester Sailing Club, won the latest round of the Angling Trust Wessex Region Marine junior fish of month award with a 14oz red mullet caught from the shore in the eastern Solent.
Oliver Warren, 11, from the Lymington club was the runner-up with a 14.5oz scad caught from the shore at Milford followed. Ben Scott 10, from Bournemouth & District SAA, hauled in a 13oz garfish also caught from the shore at Milford.
Hamworthy Park hosted the latest round of the Wessex Junior Flounder League which attracted 15 youngsters.
Adam Daubler won with a trio of flounders weighing 2lb 15oz followed by Abbie Jonson 10, also with three fish for 2lb 5oz. Third was Chad Carter, 12, with a solitary flounder of 15oz.
Nick Bainton was laughing all the way to the bank during the 4th round of the Wessex Tackle & Guns senior flounder league .
He recorded the heaviest single fish weighing 1lb 15.75oz and won the event with 3lb 3.75oz to collect £162 in pool and prize money.

The Gosport club stage their annual junior open shore completion this Saturday at Stokes Bay. There is a £200 top prize with fishing between 4pm-9pm. Details from 02392-529107.

CHRISTCHURCH & DISTRICT FC: Whiting, pout, silver eels and rockling supplied the action during a Monday night shore match held at Avon Beach and Steamer Point.

SANDOWN & LAKE AC: Janet Rolles romped to victory during a weekend fixture held on the local pier with 17lb 10oz, included in her catch was a 16lb 12oz undulate ray, the runner up was Simon Dillon with 14lb 11.5oz.
Jake Guilford was the top junior with 12lb 3oz followed by Harleigh Abbott 9lb 12.5oz.
Mike Wyatt was the top performer during the midweek fixture with 12lb 12oz which included a 7lb 7oz undulate ray. Others: 2nd Janet Rolles 11lb 7oz, 3rd Simon Dillon 6lb 9oz, 4th Steve Smith 6lb.
