Alex Pike is backing AFC Totton to go on and achieve what his Gosport Borough side can't - by lifting the 2006/7 FA Vase.

Having made the bold prediction that Gosport would emulate the achievements of his victorious Wimborne Town side of 1992, Pike could only look on in frustration as his dreams were shattered in a Totton-dominated second half at Testwood Park.

Having had the edge in the first 45 minutes, Gosport were undone by a stunning strike from former Fareham Town targetman Floyd Hamodu before two Lee Stevens goals sent the Stags galloping through to the last 64.

Although Pike was convinced that Bognor referee TJ Robinson was wrong to overrule the linesman's flag and award Stevens his first goal in the 65th-minute, he was big enough to congratulate Totton on their victory - albeit that he felt they won ugly.' He said: "Totton are a good side - after scoring four goals, you can't say they're not - and I hope they go on and represent the league well and win this competition.

"I said before this game that whoever got through would have a good chance of going on and winning it and Totton have got the right credentials to do so. They're strong, physical and direct."
