Paul Doswell has sensationally accused his highly paid, under-achieving Eastleigh side of "playing as if they are trying to get me and the coaching staff the sack."

Eastleigh dropped into the bottom two of the Nationwide Conference South at the weekend after losing 2-0 at Cambridge City.

And Doswell reacted to it by launching an astonishing attack on his players.

"They played as if they were trying to get me, Mark Dennis, David Hughes (assistant managers) and Jason Dodd (coach) the sack," he said.

"Doddsy's only been head coach for a couple of weeks but he's already questioning himself because we've got players here with their own agenda who are not listening to anything we say.

"People are not trying and that's a disgrace.

"People tell me this squad of players are too good to go down, but I don't think so. If they were, we would not be second to bottom.

"They've got ability but they lack moral fibre and they don't care enough about the club. Most of them are basically lazy individuals who don't do much work-wise and rely on football for their money.

"But if they think they're professionals, they're sadly mistaken. They're the least professional bunch of players I've ever come across."
