Cowes Sports shipped more goals in the Sydenhams Wessex Cup at Wimborne last night than they've done in ten league games this season.

The Yachtsmen lost 4-0 at Cuthbury, sunk by a Scott Joyce hat-trick and one from Gareth Barnes.

It was a rare lapse by the Scrooge-like Islanders, who have let in just three league goals to date.

Joyce, a close-season signing from Bournemouth Poppies, scored in the 31st, 42nd and 62nd minutes.

"Scott's given us that little aggressive edge you need and it's good to have him on board," said Magpies goalkeeper and club captain Stewart Kearn.

Danny Sullivan cracked in Downton's 10th-minute winner in a 1-0 result over Stockbridge - and then limped off with ankle ligament trouble.

The former Andover striker, just back from suspension, was one three casualties for the Robins.

Dan Newman pulled up with a calf strain and then Rew Waters bowed out with a swollen ankle.

"All of them will be out for Saturday's league game at Hamble," said Downton boss Jeff Softley.

"We've played like that a lot this season, but then that's what having a squad is all about. We're still on a good run of one loss in nine games."

Moneyfields knocked out Shaftesbury 1-0 and now host either Alton Town or VT FC in the quarter-finals.

Sydenhams Wessex League Cup quarter-final draw: Farnborough NE or AFC Aldermaston v Gosport Borough or Bournemouth Poppies, Moneyfields v Alton Town or VT FC, Downton v Lymington Town or East Cowes Vics, Wimborne Town v Christchurch or Alresford Town.

Lymington & New Milton kept the local flag flying in the Southern League Errea Cup last night with a 2-1 giant-killing at Premier outfit Chippenham.

The tie got off to an explosive start when Chippenham had a man dismissed for handball in the second minute, but James Stokoe, the top scorer in Division 1 South & West, missed the resulting penalty.

Chippenham's ten men went ahead a minute before half-time, but Lymington regrouped and hit back in the second half with a Kevin James half-volley and a cracking Christer Warren free-kick a minute from time.

Linnets boss Ian Robinson reflected: "We weren't at the races for the first 45 minutes, but we had a bit of a shake-up and the players responded superbly in the second half."
