VT FC are creeping slowly but surely up the Sydenhams Premier table.
Last night's slender 1-0 victory at Downton nudged Dave Diaper's men up to sixth, level on points with fifth-placed Poole Town and with a game in hand.
Mike Spinney settled the issue with a near-post header from Ryan Ashford's first-half free-kick, but VT were made to sweat all the way by their industrious hosts.
"Downton worked really hard and made life difficult for us," Diaper admitted. "For the last 15 minutes or so we were hanging on. It was real backs to the wall stuff, but we just managed to edge it on the night."
