NICK Holmes isn't the only member of the Salisbury City management team to have been part of a major FA Cup upset during his playing days.

While Whites' boss Holmes will forever be remembered for Saints' glorious slaying of Manchester United in 1976, his trusty sidekick Barry Blankley also featured in a fairytale result during his Football League career with Aldershot - and he has the photo to prove it.

At first viewing, you might think the shock is seeing former Saints apprentice Blankley with a full head of hair!

But look a little more closely and the opponent he is lungeing at is none other than former Liverpool and Republic of Ireland striker John Aldridge.

On that memorable afternoon of January 10, 1987, the Shots - then a fourth division club - sprang an almighty surprise by dumping out firstdivision Oxford in the third round.

"It was the last game John Aldridge played for Oxford and we won 3-0," said former defender Blankley, whose tough-tackling style earned him the nicknames Rambo' and Psycho' during his playing career."
