Portsmouth manager Harry Redknapp has this week personally scouted Hibernian duo Scott Brown and Kevin Thomson and is also linked with an approah for West Ham midfielder Yossi Benayoun.

Encouraged by Kanu shooting down reports that he wanted to rejoin former club Ajax and confident that Chelsea's interest in defender Sol Campbell was not genuine, Redknapp was at Easter Road to watch the Hibs duo, 21 and 22 respectively, in a goalless draw with Aberdeen.

The pair, who raised interest from Charlton last month, are represented by agent Willie McKay who has done plenty of business with Pompey in the past, and want bigger contracts despite signing new deals with the Edinburgh club last March.

But Redknapp is uncertain Portsmouth will make a bid for them and still claims: ''I haven't a clue about transfer business here.

''I just tell our chief executive Peter Storrie who I want and he tells the owner (Alexandre Gaydamak).

''I hope we can get one or two new signings in the transfer window but I don't know how much money will be available".

Redknapp is believed to be interested in West Ham midfielder Benayoun and Bolton left-back Tal Ben Haim.

Sources in Israel are speculating a £3.5million switch is being discussed for Benayoun, 26, who has hit out at his team-mates following the east London side's latest collapse.

He described their performance in a 6-0 thrashing at reading on Monday as ''playing like a bunch of drunks''.
