SALISBURY City are back in business in the Nationwide Conference South after chalking up their first league win since September 23.

Whites' league form stuttered badly during their sizzling FA Cup run, but they responded in emphatic style last night by sweeping Yeading aside 4-0 at the Raymond McEnhill Stadium.

Paul Sales set the tone for a satisfying evening, releasing Robbie Matthews down the right and then having the ball squared back to him before slotting home a low shot on six minutes.

With leading scorer Matt Tubbs sitting out the last of a three-game suspension, Matthews then took centre stage, losing out to Yeading keeper Luke Blackmore in a one-on-one before giving his side vital breathing space.

With 26 minutes gone, the powerhouse striker again linked up with Sales before firing Salisbury's second under the keeper.

And then just after the hour he got up well to nod Scott Bartlett's cross goalwards over Blackmore, but the wind was so strong that he had to follow it up by belting the ball home.

Sandwiched between those goals, Sales had a blistering right-foot shot smartly saved on the stroke of half-time and Luke Prince had a penalty claim turned down.

Yeading's highly-rated Marvin Morgan brought a brilliant block out of underworked keeper Ryan Clarke on 52 minutes and headed wide on 67.

But, by then, Salisbury had breezed four goals up with Bartlett latching onto Matt Robinson's cross and looping a half-volley over the keeper.

The big disappointment for Salisbury, who had drawn four and lost three of their previous seven league games spread over more than three months, was a crowd of just 621 due to incorrect publicity about the match being postponed.

"That probably cost us 300 on the gate," said secretary Alec Hayter.

On the plus side, hot-shot Tubbs is now available for Saturday's intriguing FA Trophy tie at home to Conference National strugglers Southport.
