A SOUTHAMPTON Tyro League manager has quit his job claiming he has been branded a cheat for calling off one of his team's games because of the wet weather last weekend.
League officials have booted Division 1 leaders Pace Panthers out of the under-12 Dalton's Cup this week as punishment for their manager Steve Green postponing a quarter-final tie against Eastleigh Under-12's at Testwood School last week.
League rules say that only groundsmen or referees are allowed to call off Tyro league games.
But Green quit following the decision because he felt the league were labelling him a cheat for taking the decision to call off the game, due to a waterlogged pitch, into his own hands.
Green fumed: "I know I've made a mistake but the league have not punished me, they've punished the kids. It's unfair on them, they've done nothing wrong. I feel sick in my stomach about what the Tyro League have done."
