There was a certain irony to Salisbury City's controversial stoppage-time winner against Southport at Old Sarum on Saturday.
Throughout a tight, unpredictable FA Trophy second round tie, frustrated Whites boss Nick Holmes had been cursing his side's lack of decent deliveries into the box.
Yet, just when City were staring down the barrel of a long Tuesday night trek to Southport for a replay, Luke Prince served up a quality free-kick from the right which keeper Paul Harrison fumbled under pressure from defender Tim Bond.
As a pack of Whites players converged on the loose ball, it was midfielder Wayne Turk who pounced for his second goal of the game, sending Salisbury through to the last 16 at the expense of their struggling Conference National opponents.
Southport were livid - and understandably so.
It had been announced that a minimum of two minutes' stoppage time would be played but, in the event, Salisbury scored well into the third. In fact Shoeburyness referee Simon Beck somehow found an extra five minutes.
"I'd imagine the Southport manager wouldn't be too happy with that, but he can be happy with the way his team battled and played their part in what was quite a decent spectacle," said Holmes.
"They're a good footballing side, but you'd expect that from a full-time club. You can see they work on the training ground regularly.
"But they're not the biggest of sides and they're not aerially strong, so it was frustrating for us that we didn't put enough decent balls into the box where you'd expect the likes of Bondy, Aaron Cook, Paul Sales and Robbie Matthews to win a lot of headers.
"To be fair though, it's not always easy with the weather as windy as it is. We were protected in the stand, but the wind was playing havoc out on the pitch and it's a shame that a lot of games are being spoiled to a degree by the conditions."
Holmes added: "We don't win too many games late on, so it was nice that the luck went for us today. In the two league games against Weston-super-Mare over Christmas we didn't once get the rub of the green and we ended up with two draws. Today, it looked a certain draw, but we've come out winners."
