VT FC booked their place in the Sydenhams Wessex League Cup quarter-finals after battling back from behind for a 3-1 win at Alton Town last night.
No sooner had they slipped into arrears than ex-Saints and Eastleigh midfielder Ryan Ashford levelled from the penalty spot after Ben Tyrrell had been pulled down.
Two more of the Boatmen's former Eastleigh contingent, Kevin Gibbens and Tyronne Bowers, wrapped up victory in the second half.
VT are now unbeaten since losing to Totton at home in mid-October and manager Dave Diaper was pleased with their efforts on a bitterly cold night at Anstey Road.
"It was a tough game on a bumpy pitch in frosty conditions. Alton are not a bad outfit and you've got to work very hard against them," he said.
"We had no Danny Barker, who was cup tied, and Mark Foster and Darren Curtis missed out through work commitments.
"I've not had a full-strength side out once this season and, like I said to the lads, when we get everyone back we're going to be one hell of a team!
"It's coming together for us, but we're still looking for that special someone who can put the ball away regularly for us and finish off all our good moves."
VT are now away to Moneyfields in the last eight. Should they win that, they would meet Downton or Lymington Town in the semis.
Sydenhams Wessex League Cup Quarter finals: Farnborough NE v Bournemouth Poppies, Moneyfields v VT FC, Downton v Lymington Town, Wimborne v Christchurch.
Semi-finals: Downton or Lymington Town v Moneyfields or VT FC, Farnborough NE or Bournemouth Poppies v Wimborne or Christchurch.
