ONE of Hampshire’s best-loved television presenters has quit Twitter over claims another user verbally abused his 14-year-old son.
Jeff Stelling said he was closing his account because he could not trust himself to “respond to some people in a correct way” after receiving rude comments about his son’s ability as a goalkeeper.
The 58-year-old father-of-three, who presents Sky Sports Soccer Saturday and Champions League coverage, said he was “steaming” after confronting the user.
He said: “My apologies for the language but this persons time line simply appalling. I got irritated. Hope I offended no one.
“'Sorry guys. People can abuse me but not my kids.”
The presenter, who lives in Bishop’s Waltham, near Winchester, added: “Thanks for your support over last couple of years. Am closing account as I don't trust myself to respond to some people in a correct way.”
It appears the original tweet has now been deleted.
