DAVE Diaper may have likened his VT FC team to the Harlem Globetrotters of the Sydenhams Wessex League - but he won't be letting them get too big for their boots.

With an all-star galaxy of Wessex players to call upon next season - Dean Blake, Kevin Gibbens, Ryan Ashford, Tyronne Bowers, Liam Green and Jamie Musselwhite, to name but a few - fears have surfaced that their superior spending power could blow the opposition out of the water.

Earlier this week Stuart Ritchie, manager of title rivals AFC Totton, said he had no problem with VT splashing the cash to win the league - so long as they are geared up to accept promotion.

If they don't go up, he foresees them making "a mockery" of the league, racking up cricket scores every other week and blocking other clubs' routes into the Southern League.

Diaper, though, insists Wessex clubs are made of stronger stuff than to tamely roll over and die.

After three years on the Sydenhams circuit, VT have learned the truth of that well-used football cliché that "there's no such thing as an easy game."
