The good news for AFC Totton - and the bad news for their Sydenhams Premier title rivals - is that fleet-footed left winger Mike Gosney is staying at Testwood Park.

After further trials with AFC Bournemouth, the talented 19-year-old has been advised to get another year of Wessex football under his belt before pushing for a breakthrough into the professional ranks.

Gosney has long been on Cherries' boss Kevin Bond's radar having played with his son, Jack Bond, during his days with Winchester City's youth team.

He had trials at Dean Court last summer and, following some outstanding performances on Totton's journey to May's FA Vase final, was called back by the Cherries again.

And although he hasn't quite made it this time, Bournemouth intend to keep monitoring his progress.

"Bournemouth have told him that they're going to keep looking at him," Ritchie reported "They feel he needs another year at this level."

Keeping a player of Gosney's quality on board can only be good news for Totton's title chances.

"He's massively key to us and his attitude is superb," said Ritchie.
