THE Hampshire FA media officer has been charged with the task of helping Jersey arrange a series of friendlies against countries who have played England in recent years.

Paul Creeden has been appointed the new chief executive of the Jersey FA, who currently play representative games against the likes of Hampshire, Devon and Cornwall in the SW Counties Championship.

But the Channel Islanders' grand plans include liaising with UEFA and FIFA to result in games against the likes of Andorra - who are in England's Euro 2008 qualifying group - Malta, Cyprus and the Faroe Islands.

Creeden, who is also Hampshire's small-sided football development officer, takes up his new role next week after convincing an interview panel in Soho Square he is the man to drive Jersey's football scene forward.

"Jersey want to develop what they call the meaningful game programme' which is as it suggests - they want to try and play games that give the Island players more ambition to want to progress.

"They have got the green light from the FA to explore the idea. We need to talk to UEFA and FIFA but the plan is to arrange games against the smaller European countries like Malta and the Faroes Islands."
