MIKE Gosney's grandmother brought the best possible news for AFC Totton boss Stuart Ritchie this week.
After suffering a broken wrist in the opening game of the season, the talented left-sided player made his long-awaited comeback on Tuesday, playing the second half of Stags' 4-1 FA Cup win over Abingdon United.
And it was all down to getting the all-clear to play from his nan!
Ritchie laughed: "Mike's nan's a nurse and she said he could play and that was fine by me!
"Having him back is unbelievable. He's such an outlet for us and he gives us that bit of balance on the left".
After catching the eye along Totton's journey to the FA Vase final at Wembley last season, 19-year-old Gosney was invited back for trials with AFC Bournemouth during the summer and will still be monitored by the Cherries this season.
Frustratingly, the wrist injury has interrupted his progress, but for 45 minutes on Tuesday there was every sign he has come back as good as ever.
