LYMINGTON & New Milton have promoted skipper John Waldock to the role of player-coach.
The former Weymouth and Hamworthy United midfielder replaces ex-Saint Nicky Banger, who resigned as head coach earlier this week because team boss Ian Robinson was not prepared to make him co-manager of the Southern Division 1 South & West club.
North Shields-born Waldock, 31, started his professional career at Sunderland before making more than 400 appearances in a ten-year stint with Weymouth where he became club captain and later player-coach.
But following the arrival of Garry Hill at the Wessex Stadium, he moved into the Wessex League with Hamworthy United in March 2005.
A year later, he joined forces with Lymington and played a key role in helping them find their feet in the Ryman League Division 1.
"John's got a lot of respect in the dressing room," said Robinson. "He's not a character to be messed about with, but he's very fair."
