RIO FERDINAND has been ruled out of the World Cup, with a knee injury.
The Manchester United defender and England captain suffered the injury following a challenge in training this morning.
As a result, Steven Gerrard is expected to become England captain while Tottenham Hotspur defender Michael Dawson will be drafted into the squad.
