EASTLEIGH came up with the perfect FA Cup hangover cure by underlining their Blue Square Bet South promotion credentials on Saturday.
Manager Ian Baird got just the response he wanted as the Spitfires cruised to a comfortable 3-0 home win over lowly league newcomers Boreham Wood.
Unlike in the Cup defeat at Woking, the Spitfires this time managed to build on their early lead and were home and dry by the time Chris Holland had headed in their 54th-minute third.
“It was a good reaction,” said Baird.
“The lads were as disappointed with the Woking result as everyone else at the club.
“But they’re a good group of players, they trained well during the week and I’m really pleased with their response.
“We were totally and utterly dominant and if we’d scored seven, it would have been a fair reflection on the game.
“If I had to be critical, the only disappointment was that we missed a hatful of chances.”
Tony Taggart had headed the Spitfires in front after just 30 seconds and Richard Gillespie added a second with 16 minutes gone.
