HARRY Redknapp has re-iterated his desire to keep hold of prize asset Gareth Bale.

For the second time in a fortnight, the former Saints starlet tormented the man many consider to be the best right back in the business, Maicon, as Tottenham defeated Inter Milan 3-1 at White Hart Lane in the Champions League last night.

Redknapp said: "What confidence you must have as a player when you can come and do that to people who are so highly rated.

"He (Bale) was outstanding tonight.

"He's playing against a right-back who before the two games, you would have thought nobody could give him a chasing.

"He's rated by many, many people as the best right-back in the world.

"It's like you being a boxer. You might be knocking everybody out and suddenly you come against the champion.

"No disrespect to the right-back but Gareth has given him the most torrid time you could ever wish to see."

Redknapp added: "I don't think he (Bale) needs to go anywhere else to play his football at the moment.

"Tottenham is the place he needs to stay."

Bale, who had scored a hat-trick at the San Siro when Spurs lost 4-3 to Milan last month, must surely be considered one of the best players in the world on current form.

But Redknapp, who would have first caught sight of Bale during his time as St Mary's boss, was reluctant to compare the 21-year-old to the likes of Cristiano Ronaldo.

"He's a different sort of player," said the Spurs manager.

"Ronaldo's a fantastic player; amazing goalscorer.

"This kid is just improving, improving; he's just getting better and better."

Last night's victory moved Tottenham to the top of Group A on goal difference and victory over Werder Bremen later this month will almost certainly see them qualify with a game to spare.
