AFC Totton banished their Portway Stadium hoodoo with a comfortable 2-0 win over Hampshire rivals Andover in the Zamaretto Southern 1 South & West last night.

Having slipped up there 1-0 on the opening day of last sea son, Stuart Ritchie’s men were hungry for revenge.

They went ahead after 14 minutes when Nathaniel Sherborne was fouled and full-back Michael Green net ted a screaming free-kick from 20 yards, which deflect ed in off Darren Morris.

The Stags made sure of the result on 65 minutes when Carl Pettefer’s cross was headed back across the box by Jonathan Davies for Sherborne to sidefoot home.

Having eased their bottom- of-the-table blues with succes sive draws against Taunton and high-riding Mangotsfield, Andover were decidedly sec ond best last night.

Curtis Angell might have done better with a header from Ben Chambers’ cross but, apart from that, the Lions’ only other chance was a 20-yard strike from Sholing loan striker Morris.

“Totton were the better side and won at a canter really,”

admitted Andover boss Andy Leader.

“They’re a frightening team going forward and we had to concentrate on nullifying their pace.

“We’ve got to accept that we’re not always going to get results against the better teams.

“We have to pick our battles and maybe tonight was a bat tle too far after Saturday’s draw at Mangotsfield. We looked a bit flat and heavy- legged.”

After a shaky patch, it was Totton’s second win in four days, lifting them to third in the Zamaretto South & West.

“It was a very professional performance,” acknowledged manager Stuart Ritchie.

“Nothing great, but job done at a ground where we haven’t had a lot of luck in the past.

“That’s two clean sheets now and our new keeper Grant Porter did well again.

“His kicking’s good and he’s calmed things down a bit.”

“It’s nice to win two in a row.”
