JAMIE White, once a hot Saints prospect, is playing in the Sydenhams Wessex Premier for Totton & Eling.
But Millers boss Kev Dawtry, himself an ex-Dell boy, does not expect to keep the 21-year-old striker for long.
Before an horrific spate of injuries blighted his career, Harefield lad White was tipped for great things at St Mary’s.
He was crowned Saints’ 2006/07 academy player of the year and under-18 top scorer, but had to accept the awards on crutches after suffering a cruci ate ligament injury while train ing with the first team in March 2007.
Following a strong pre-season he made his first-team debut against Derby in August 2008 and had a spell on loan at Shrewsbury Town.
But on his return to Saints, he fractured a fibula and dislocated an ankle playing for the reserves against Aldershot.
White was sent on loan to Blue Square South outfit Eastleigh on his way back to fitness last sea son, but was released by Saints when his contract expired dur ing the summer.
Then, cruelly, he was dealt another blow, snapping the cru ciate in his right knee while on trial at Stockport.
Saints allowed him to undergo rehab at Staplewood and he rejoined Eastleigh over Christmas in the hope of playing some games to get his fitness back.
But, with Eastleigh flying, he got only 22 minutes’ game time and recently left the Silverlake after growing frustrated at sit ting on the bench.
Taking up the story, Totton & Eling boss Dawtry said: “Our coach Chris Tona used to go to school with Jamie’s stepdad and we caught wind that he wanted games to get himself fit.
“We had a chat and he agreed to sign for us, but we don’t expect him to be here too long.
“He needs games to get in shape.
“Jamie’s a quality player and he’s helping us as much as we’re helping him."
