AFC Totton’s Mike Gosney moved a step closer to clinching a move to the Football League by netting an injury time winner for Wycombe Wanderers Reserves in yesterday’s match at Aldershot Town.
The winger smashed home the rebound from Keiran Murtagh’s shot as Wanderers picked up a 3-2 win after throwing away a two-goal lead.
Gosney, in an impressive display, also laid on the second Wycombe goal in the first half.
The 22-year-old has also trained with Championship club Millwall and was invited to take part in yesterday’s game by Wycombe boss Gary Waddock alongside his Totton teammate Mike Green, who played at left-back.
Talking about his goal and the performance of both himself and clubmate Green, Gosney said: “It was my only real chance but I took it so that’s all that matters. I did all right, the tempo’s obviously a bit quicker than we’re used to but the heat took out most of the players I think. I thought we did quite well.
“The manager [Gary Waddock] spoke to me at half-time to say the club were interested in me. He didn’t say anything after the game.”
And Green added: “I struggled a bit towards the end.
It was quite a big pitch and the heat didn’t help but it didn’t feel like we did too badly.
“It definitely helped having Mike playing in front of me as we’re used to playing with each other.”
