AFC Totton have made well in excess of £100,000 from their first venture into the FA Cup second round proper.
And assistant manager Sean New hopes that some of that windfall will be chan nelled in team boss Stuart Ritchie’s direction so that the Southern Premier Division newcomers can achieve their dream of Conference South football.
On top of the live broadcast fee of £72,000 for ITV cover age of Sunday’s second round tie against Bristol Rovers, the Stags have banked £45,500 from the FA prize fund for victories over Fleet, Clevedon, Weymouth, Hanworth Villa and Bradford Park Avenue.
Throw gate receipts, bar takings, etc. into the mix, and the final figure could be around £150,000.
“I’m just hoping that what the club has raised financial ly is given to Stu as a budget so that we can strengthen the squad and push for the title,” said New.
“We’ve got the facilities to go up and I just hope we’re given the finances and resources to keep progress ing on the playing side.”
Totton are back in action tonight when they continue their defence of the Hampshire FA Senior Cup away to Fareham Town of the Sydenhams Premier.
