Two goals in 90 seconds mid-way through the second half by Tom McInnes sent Newport into the last 16 of the FA Vase at the expense of Yorkshiremen Brighouse Town.
Trailing 1-0 at half-time, Newport were second best for large periods of an entertaining cut-and-thrust fourth-round tie, but the McInness, pictured below, brace turned the match on its head to give the Islanders an against-the-odds 2-1 win.
Newport began brightly, with Giancarlo Giancovich influential – the beach international forcing a fine save from visiting goalkeeper Tom Taylor with an ambitious overhead kick and then setting up a chance for Alek Przespolewski.
But Brighouse gradually began to impose themselves on the heavy surface and twice man-of-the-match Gary Streeter made fine saves.
It was no surprise when, mid-way through the first half, Brighouse took the lead through EARNEST BOAFO.
Brighouse bossed it after that, with Newport relieved to be only one goal adrift at the break.
The Yorkshire visitors continued to enjoy the upper hand in the second half, with Streeter twice making fine saves.
With 15 minutes left Newport did not look like saving it – but two McInnes goals in quick succession turned the match upside-down.
Newport suddenly upped their game and equalised when McINNES turned in a low cross from substitute Ryan Oatley to make it 1-1.
It was Newport’s first shot for over an hour.
With their very next attack, Newport snatched the winner – Przespolewski threading a ball down the right channel and McINNES stealing in to score at the near post.
Newport clung on for dear life after that, with Streeter making a magnificent finger-tip save to clinch a remarkable victory.
