SYDENHAMS Premier champions Blackfield & Langley are on the trail of Totton & Eling’s prolific marksman Craig Feeney.
Watersiders’ boss Ashley Vickers has confirmed that his right-hand man Glenn Burnett has met the former Fawley AFC striker, who finished last season dual-signed with T&E’s Southern League neighbours AFC Totton.
“Lots of lads (last season’s squad included) have committed to sign for us for next season, but no one has yet signed along the dotted line,” confirmed Vickers.
“But Craig Feeney is one of the players we’ve talked to. He’s a good, young prospect.
“Glenn has spoken to him and we’ve met a lot of other players too.”
Feeney, who hails from the Waterside area, finished as the Wessex Premier’s sixth highest scorer last season with 25 goals.
He would surely have been a golden boot contender, but spent most of the last two months on Southern League duty with AFC Totton – just as he had the season before when dual-signed for Gosport Borough.
On the minus side, Blackfield have lost a key cog from their title-winning machine.
Versatile former Swindon, Spurs and Eastleigh defender/midfielder Leigh Mills has returned to his old club Winchester City, who will be vying to take Blackfield’s crown next term.
