Lewis McManus hit his second century in three weeks and left-hander Tom Alsop celebrated a maiden hundred as the Hampshire Academy enjoyed a 347-run fest at the expense of Totton & Eling on the Ageas Bowl Academy Ground.

But former Winchester City football boss James Taylor, who is in the batting form of his life for Totton, hit an unbeaten century of his own to ensure the Eels earned a draw from the Time pennant match.

The Young Royals already had 109 runs on the board through Wilf Marriott (37), Oli Green (25) and Jack Mynott (32) when the pair came together.

McManus, whose 103 contained 15 boundaries, and Alsop, with 16 fours in his 100, shared a 183-run fourth-wicket stand as the Academy steamed towards 300.

The partnership was the second highest SPL fourth-wicket stand, falling ten runs short of Paul Gover’s partnership with Luke Sears for Havant against Andover in 2000.

With Michael Porter hitting a quick-fire 31, the Academy made 347-5 declared off 60 overs.

Darron Augustus, who put in a decent bowling shift with a 4-67 return, hit 69 at the top of the Totton innings before becoming a second victim for Tom Barber, who went on to take 4-65 himself.

The Academy sensed a possible victory with Totton 185-5 and Adam Hayes back in the pavilion retired hurt.

But Taylor, the first Premier Division batsman to pass 500 league runs this season, proved impossible to lure from the crease.

He struck a 16-boundary 104 and with Dylan Augustus (50) playing his role in a 92-run stand, Totton comfortably earned their share of the spoils reaching 297-7 at stumps.
