Sholing defeated AFC Totton 3-2 in a preseason friendly at the Testwood Stadium tonight as Lee Wort fired his second hat-trick in the space of a week.

Wort grabbed a first half trio to put the Boatmen 3-0 up at the break before substitute Taylor Edwards scored a brace for the Stags.

The first of the striker’s goals came within five minutes as a Kevin Brewster corner caused confusion in the Totton defence for Wort to drill a shot under trailist keeper Tom Taylor.

Midfielder Tyronne Bowers then whipped in a sumptuous ball to Lee Bright who squared the ball to last season’s top scorer, with 35 league goals, to volley home from close range to make it 2-0.

Ten minutes before the interval the 21-year-old completed his second treble this week, after his goals against Cowes Sports on Saturday, as he ran through on a misplaced back pass by fullback Micheal Bada to flick the ball into the net.

The financially stricken Stags once again fielded several trialists including goalkeeper Taylor and former Bournemouth and Winchester loanee Clive Makoni, who look dangerous at times working Matt Brown in the Boatmen net.

With the game out of reach, the Stags rang in the changes bringing on all of their substitutes including under-18 striker Edwards, who glanced in a header from Ricky Thorne with half-an-hour to go.

Two minutes later the youngster had his second of the night as a powerful shot from distance rooted Brown to make the score 3-2.

The Calor Southern Premier League then dominated late in game and could have equalised as midfielder Sam House snapped a shot over the bar from range.

But Sholing completed their pre-season programme with a win before they kick off their season against United Services Portsmouth in the Sydenhams Wessex League Cup on Friday night.
