BROCKENHURST have their first point on the board after returning to the Sydenhams Premier Division, but manager Pat McManus reckons it should have been three.

Having twice built two-goal leads in Saturday’s opener at Downton, the Badgers were pegged back for a 3-3 draw.

Lee Clark took less than a minute to fire the Division One champions in front and, when he struck again on 35 minutes, it looked as if Brock were well on their way to glory.

But Downton replied on the stroke of half-time and, although a penalty by Scott Joyce, pictured above, restored the two- goal cushion, Brock were pegged back by what McManus described as a “dubious” spot kick awarded against Dave Marden and a last-gasp leveller.

Declan McGregor (2) and Jack Brooks were on target for Downton, who tonight host Horndean.

“We dominated and, based on chances, we should have been out of sight by half-time,” McManus reflected.

“Downton were clinical in the way they took the limited chances they had and their goalkeeper (Charles Aldridge) was man-of-the-match and made some great saves. That, combined with some poor finishing, is the reason we didn’t go in 4-1 or 5-1 up.

“It feels like two points dropped rather than a point gained, but we created lots of chances and can go into tonight’s game (at Folland Sports) with plenty of positives.”

Brock lose schoolteacher and ex-QK Southampton frontrunner Ben Penfold for three games due to a school trip, but Will Tickle, Dan Smith and Lewis Gundry are all back from holiday and raring to go.
