Lee Wort hailed Sholing’s team spirit after they reached the FA Vase final for the first time in their history.
Wort scored vital goals in earlier rounds against Larkhall and Wisbech to help the Boatmen to a date at Wembley next month, where they take on West Auckland after beating Eastbourne United 6-4 over two semi-final legs.
The striker, who’s scored goals 43 this campaign so far, was keen to point out that Sholing's success is down to having such a close-knit squad.
“It’s every players dream to go to Wembley; it was an amazing shift by the boys to get us through the semi-final,” he said.
“If you asked anyone around the Wessex (Sydenhams Premier Division) or any of the teams that we’ve played in the Vase you can see that the spirit we’ve got has seen us through those 1-0 victories in the games against Larkhall and Wisbech and other games too.
“I’ve experienced nothing like it before and I think I never will again, for me it helps massively especially in such high pressured games like the semi-final.”
The 22-year-old Manchester United fan has watched on, dreaming, as many of his icons, including Wayne Rooney, scored on the Wembley turf but now has the opportunity of a lifetime to emulate them.
“I think everyone’s thought about it (scoring at Wembley), but I don’t know what I’d do,” Wort said.
“It would be unbelievable to score, I think I’d just run over to the fans and celebrate with them, but I guess we’re there now so we’ve just got to go and enjoy it.
“All the boys put in a great shift against Eastbourne, we deserve it especially after the first-half performance, we were different class.
“The feeling is unreal.”
