ALESFORD co-managers Danny Robinson and Tim Cole are focused on winning an emotional last Sydenhams Wessex League game in charge.

The Magpies are hoping to make winning the title as difficult as possible for Sholing by taking three points from Robinson and Cole’s last league game, at home to Moneyfields.

Alresford also have two cup finals to play and Robinson insists: “Tim’s been at Alresford a lot longer than me and I’ve been there six years, so it will be a little bit emotional.

“But we’re professional and we’ll be focused on winning the game.

“All we’re thinking about at the moment is Alresford and if we can get a result and put a bit more pressure on Sholing, so much the better.”

Should they beat Moneyfields tomorrow, Alresford would finish the Wessex campaign with an impressive 97 points.

But Robinson admits Moneyfields are the last opponents he would want for a must-win last league game.

The Portsmouth outfit are one of only two teams to have beaten Alresford in their last 19 league games, a 3-1 success ten days ago.

That was the only game Alresford have failed to win out of their last six, with Robinson admitting: “Moneyfields are probably the best side we’ve played all year.

“On the night they were fabulous; they out-ran us, out-jumped us, out-sweated us and they had quality every time they went forward.

“If we could choose a game to finish on it definitely wouldn’t be this one but hopefully we can get the right result.”

Whatever the result at Arlesbury Park, Sholing’s destiny will be in their own hands as they still have four league games to play.

The likelihood is that Alresford will finish second with the highest points tally by a Wessex League runner-up since Sholing finished with 101 – 15 behind Poole Town – five years ago.

But they still have the Aldershot Senior Cup final, against Camberley, and the Wessex League Cup final, against Bemerton Heath Harlequins, to play before Robinson and Cole head to Winchester City.

“We’ve had a tremendous season and already have a phenomenal points return,” added Robinson, who has been grateful for the earlier-than-expected return of 54-goal top scorer Warren Bentley, following a hamstring injury, in recent weeks.

Robinson added: “We’ve got a great physio, Lottie Toogood, and Warren’s strike partner, Zach Glasspool, referred him to his acupuncturist!

“Warren’s also a very clever lad who knows his body so did everything right and only missed three games.”
