FORMER Saints and Cherries strikers helped condemn Chester FC to relegation from the Conference National yesterday.
Charlie Sheringham and Jamie White scored for Salisbury in a 2-2 draw at Chester which saw the hosts relegated back to Conference North on goal difference.
Hereford United saved themselves by the skin of their teeth with a 2-1 success at Aldershot.
Michael Rankine, once on loan at Cherries, grabbed an 87th minute winner for Hereford to ensure they will face Eastleigh next season.
Former Cherries striker Sheringham, on loan at Salisbury from AFC Wimbledon, cancelled out Danny Carlton’s opener in front of a crowd of over 3,500 at The Deva Stadium.
John Rooney - brother of Wayne – restored Chester’s lead but ex-Saints, Eastleigh and Winchester striker White levelled four minutes from time.
Chester were still safe then, but shortly after Rankine ensured Hereford avoided a second drop in three seasons.
