ALRESFORD Town staged yet another epic late fightback to lift the Aldershot Senior Cup on Wednesday.
The Magpies – runners-up in the Sydenhams Premier Division – hit back from 3-2 down to beat a Camberley Town side – second in the Combined Counties Premier – 4-3 at Aldershot Town’s Electrical Services Stadium.
Camberley’s Oneal Garnnes was the busier of the two goalkeepers early on and was beaten by a 14th-minute Zach Glasspool penalty after he had brought the striker down.
But two goals in a minute by Marcus Cousins and Carl Garstang rocked Alresford before Warren Bentley scurried away down the right and crossed for Andy Mott to make it 2-2 with a flying header.
Camberley went ahead again on 57 minutes when Cousins glanced home a deep free kick and the Magpies were still in arrears going into the last five minutes.
But the Wessex side gave themselves an 86th-minute lifeline - Luke Dempsey nodding down a free kick for the prolific Bentley to net his 55th goal of the season.
Alresford’s night was complete on 88 minutes when the otherwise immaculate Garnnes spilt sub Chris Manning’s powerful strike and Glasspool smashed in the rebound.
Having successfully defended the North Hants Senior Cup, Alresford are now on course to repeat their tally of three trophies won in 2012/13. They will be looking to crown another hat-trick of silverware on Bank Holiday Monday when they face Petersfield Town in the Sydenhams Wessex League Cup final at Bemerton’s Western Way home (3pm).
