GOSPORT Borough continued their unbeaten start to the Vanarama Conference South season with an extraordinary 5-0 scoreline at Weston-super-Mare.
Justin Bennett, Borough’s all-time top scorer, exceeded the 200 goals mark with a sharply-taken hat-trick, while ex-Saint Matt Paterson and fellow summer signing Paco Saez weighed in with one apiece for the fourth-placed Hampshire club.
Former Sholing hotshot Lee Wort, on as a 74th-minute substitute, almost made it six, but the goalkeeper thwarted him one-on-one.
“Worty went clean through and it would have been nice to have got him on the scoresheet as well,” said manager Alex Pike. “The ’keeper went the wrong way but then saved it with his legs.”
With no league game scheduled for today due to Salisbury’s expulsion from the league, Gosport are hosting an AFC Bournemouth XI at Privett Park (3pm).
