ALL three substitutes scored for Newport IoW in the 5-2 FA Cup preliminary round defeat of Winterbourne at St George’s Park.
It was 1-1 at the break with Winterbourne finishing the stronger side after Ashley McGrane had wiped out Scott Jones’s 12th-minute Port opener.
The introduction of Aidan Sainsbury and Liam Triggs swung the pendulum the Islanders’ way – Sainsbury restoring the lead with a 25-yard free-kick and then playing through Triggs to make it 3-1.
And it was Port’s third sub Freddie Knowles who plundered their fourth and fifth, sandwiching his efforts around Alex Monks’ reply.
Newport now visit Sydenhams Premier rivals Horndean who pulled off an excellent 2-1 win at Southern League side Cinderford.
Nathan Kirby headed the Deans in front from Lewis Stockford’s third-minute corner and a superb run and finish from man-of-the-match Gary Austin put clear daylight between the teams with 20 minutes to go.
Jacob Morgan reduced the arrears.
Cowes Sports were agonisingly knocked out by an 84th-minute Lewis Haldane goal for Yate Town.
