HAMPSHIRE FA SENIOR CUP
First round
FOLLAND Sports can look forward to a visit from Conference giants Eastleigh in the second round of the Hampshire FA Senior Cup.
The Planemakers came through a tricky home tie against Ringwood Town 3-1 tonight – a match which brought both praise and criticism for the visitors from Follands boss Danny Bowers.
Follands went in 2-1 up at the break, but Bowers said: “If you asked me who was the better side in the first half, I’d have to say them. They were in our face and really up for it, whereas our players were a bit easy-osey for my liking.
“I expected Ringwood to come out and really have a go second half, but they didn’t play the same way and we got our third goal and could have had a couple more.
“I was disappointed, though, because they had a lad sent off and a few booked and it became a bit of a kicking match.
“We’ve already got players out and I made changes because I was worried about people getting injured. It was foul after foul in the second half.
“We’re through to the next round, which is good, but Mike Turvey can barely walk and Jamie Barron and Ryan Fuller have taken whacks on the ankle.”
Turvey scored both Follands’ first-half goals and James Roden got the third after Callum Brockway had headed a corner back across goal.
*Newport IoW crashed out in disastrous fashion, having two men sent off in a 5-0 home defeat by neighbours Cowes Sports.
Liam Triggs and Charlie Smeeton got their marching orders, allowing Cowes to run riot through Joe Adams (penalty), Ryan Gregory, John McKie, Enrique Villar and Jordan Browne.
To add to Port’s woes, defender Scott Sampson bowed out with a twisted ankle.
