Winchester City co-manager Tim Cole was left “very frustrated” after the 2-2 draw with Blackfield & Langley but is pleased with how his side’s performances are developing this season.
The Sydenhams Premier Division favourites were made to rue numerous missed chances as the Watersiders battled back to secure a point at the Denplan City Ground.
Zach Glasspool failed to convert a second half penalty to go 3-0 up, but while Cole – who took charge at City with Danny Robinson during the summer – was left wondering what could been, he is pleased that after seven leagues matches his side are beginning to get to the level he wants them to be.
“I thought we deserved to win,” he said.
“We were 2-0 up and had a penalty – should have scored that – and we had two or three more chances throughout the game to go up. It should have been three or four.
“The game should have been finished, but well done to Blackfield.
“They got themselves going again and deserved to get to 2-2 and then could have won it.
“But we should have finished the game off earlier on.
“We played really well though.
“I thought we played some really good football, we were probably the better team throughout the 90 minutes. We just lacked that clinical finish.
“I am very frustrated,” he laughed. “On the plus side of it we’ve started playing the football we think we can.
“About a month ago we were winning games, but not playing our best football. But now I think we’re playing good football and creating lots of chances and the goals will come.”
Winchester are up there with the top scorers in the Wessex and have Glasspool, Warren Bentley, Sam Wilson and Andrew Mott among their array of attacking talent.
City are in action again tomorrow night when they visit Lymington Town in the league (7.45pm).
