JAMES Taylor’s Team Solent are sitting pretty as the new leaders of Sydenhams One.
The Southampton Solent University side leapfrogged Fleet Spurs at the summit after winning Saturday’s Southampton derby 3-1 at home to Hythe & Dibden.
It was 0-0 at half-time, but Solent blitzed the Watersiders with three goals at the start of the second half.
Former Spurs youth player Jesse Waller-Lassen got two, taking his season’s Wessex tally to nine, and winger Jim Orvis got the other.
Hythe replied with a late Terry Cox penalty awarded for handball against Mike Wheeler.
“It’s all going nicely at the moment and we’ve won our last six games,” said Taylor.
“We had the freshers’ trial a week ago and players have slowly been coming back from last season.
“Sam Byles, who was at Arsenal, is back in midfield and we’ve got a central midfielder, Jamal Frederick, who was at Coventry and left-back James Campbell, who was with Stoke.
“They’re young lads out of professional academies who are very keen and technically very good.
“The main problem we’ll have is playing teams like Hythe who are big and physical, but we passed them off the park.”
Taylor also has high hopes for Rukky Diejomaoh, who went on as sub on Saturday. “I’ve no idea where he’s from, but he came through the freshers’ trial and he’s very strong and lightning quick,” he said.
Fleet Spurs surrendered top spot after being held 2-2 at home by New Milton, who scored through skipper Ross Drew and Kabba Jack.
