SHOLING, the 2014 FA Vase winners, have had a change of last-16 opponent in this year’s competition.
The Boatmen had been due to host Godmanchester Rovers in the fifth round this Saturday (February 2, 3pm).
But Godmanchester have been removed from the competition for fielding an ineligible player in their 1-0 fourth round success over Sporting Khalsa.
Under a new ruling introduced this season, midfielder Chris Hyem should have been suspended after being booked in two previous rounds of the Vase.
The FA have reinstated Sporting Khalsa but the West Midlands club stated: “There is little satisfaction in progressing in this way.
“While Khalsa performed nothing like their best on the day, Godmanchester were undeniably the better side.
“Furthermore, Godmanchester were exceptional hosts and their fans were brilliant.
“There is absolutely no suggestion this was anything other than an unfortunate and cruel oversight – a situation anybody who has been involved in football administration will appreciate.”
Godmanchester have until 4pm tomorrow (Monday) to submit an appeal, but it is highly unlikely they will do so.
Admission for Sholing v Sporting Khalsa on Saturday is £5 adults, £4 over-60s, £3 12-16 years and free for U12s at the Universal Stadium, Portsmouth Road.
