Hampshire's Justin Rose shot a one-over par 71 in the first round of the US Open.
Three birdies in his closing five holes helped Rose to salvage his round at Merion, with the Pennsylvania course providing a severe test for the world's top golfers.
Rose, who started on the 11th, was four-over-par after his 13th hole, but fought back to keep himself in the mix.
Play was suspended twice at the Pennsylvania course yesterday, due to electrical storms, with many players left to finish today.
England's Luke Donald holds the lead, on four-under, but has five holes remaining in his opening round.
Phil Mickelson is in the clubhouse with the best score, having signed for a three-under-par 67.
