Neil Raymond’s bid to add the British Amateur Championship to his list of prestigious titles is off to a flying start.
The Corhampton player, fresh from his victory in the St Andrews Links Trophy, looks to have comfortably cruised through the stroke play qualifying stages in Kent.
Raymond, 27, shot level-par round Prince’s yesterday to put him in a tie for fifth and he added another even-par effort this morning at Royal Cinque Ports.
The top 64 and ties once this afternoon’s action is finished will advance to the match play stages.
Meon Valley teenage star Harry Ellis is in a fight to make it through to the knockout rounds.
A string of consecutive bogeys from the 14th to the 17th at Prince’s saw the 17-year-old finish on a score of four-over yesterday, putting him in a tie for 69th.
Brokenhurst Manor’s Jack Singh-Brar, 16, endured a difficult first day, shooting an eight-over-par round of 80 at Prince’s and will need something special today to qualify.
