Neil Raymond was knocked out of the British Amateur Championship at the quarter-final stage this morning.
The Hampshire player lost 2&1 to his England colleague, Garrick Porteous, at Royal Cinque Ports, Kent.
Raymond, 27, had cruised through the stroke play qualification stage earlier in the week and then won his first three knockout matches.
But his impressive run was ended this morning, as Northumberland's Porteous claimed a large early lead and held on.
Despite his exit, Raymond, who came into the event on the back of his victory in the St Andrews Links Trophy, can reflect on another good week.
His performances this month have made him a firm favourite to earn a place in the Great Britain and Ireland Walker Cup team, and he also has a chance next week to write his name into the history books, when he attempts to become the first ever player to win three successive Brabazon Trophy titles.
Raymond, the winner of the last two English Open Amateur Stroke Play Championships, will defend his title at Formby.
