Neil Raymond was knocked out in the British Amateur Championship quarter-finals.

The Hampshire player lost 2&1 yesterday to his England colleague, Garrick Porteous, at Royal Cinque Ports, Kent.

Raymond, 27, had cruised through the stroke play qualification stage earlier in the week and then won his first three knockout matches.

Raymond’s performances this month have still made him a firm favourite to earn a place in the Great Britain and Ireland Walker Cup team, and he also has a chance next week to write his name into the history books, when he attempts to become the first ever player to win three successive Brabazon Trophy titles.
